There are some things a mother should not be expected to do to her child

Number one on my list is putting a urine catheter in your child 4 times a day

Matthew's ability to empty his bladder has gone to almost non-existant.
Which is causing him a great deal of pain.
I can only imagine.
But catheterizing him is not a walk in the park for either one of us, either.
And I'm drained. Emotionally at least.

Oh, and did I mention we're moving?
Yes, instead of holding my crying baby right now; I'm supposed to be packing boxes.
Three 1/2 weeks and we'll be closing on our new house.

Oh and the best news of all.
They just called me and canceled his surgery on Friday.
The doctor is going to be out of town.
They have no other time available than Thursday.
Thursday happens to be Matthew's birthday.
So instead of cake and candles, we will go to the operating room instead.
Happy Birthday to
YOU, Matthew.

Yes, a catheter is definitely on the list of "I'd rather nots". My daughter Sammy would just say "That's icky Mommy" and leave the room - or at least that's what she said when I told her where we put the Diastat :-)

And getting back the use of his bladder might be pretty high on Matthew's list of what he wants for his birthday, so I wouldn't feel too bad about scheduling it then.

*hugs* to you both!

HUGS!

We can just declare Wednesday as his Birthday this year!
Think of it this way---one less day that you will have to deal with the catheter.
Let me know if you need help with anything.

Sorry Jill. I hope it gets better.

Yuck, I don't blame you, friend. Faith has had this done quite a few times due to Kidney reflux and it is an awful experience for everyone involved. We actually had a urologist once try to cath her with an adult catheter! I was so angry I almost killed him where he stood, with that stupid look on his face! We will be saying prayers for little Mattew!

yup, its definately a downer. Poor Matthew. I'm with Sherri & vote for Matthew to have his birthday a day early:) Prayers for a short hospital stay & quick recovery!

I agree, no mother should have to do that for her son. But I'm sure Matthew is glad to have YOU as a mother/nurse. I'm sure you are the most gentlest nurse he has ever had.

I also agree with Sherri. I will celebrate his birthday on Wednesday.

I imagine that is very draining. Hopefully when Matthew's surgery is complete, fully recovered and the move is over you can have a day of just you. Or at least you can sleep in really late or take a very long nap.
Matthew should turn 2 early this year! I agree Wednesday's a great day for a birthday!

Oh goodness, you have a lot on your plate! Hang in there!

Also, I am not surprised to here that Matthew has the same pump....our two do everything alike!

Oh, poor baby! Sorry about the cath. No fun at all! Want me to come help pack?

Can you just do his birthday celebrating a day-ish early?
